The Brief: What is Proctorio's Test Taker Experience?
Proctorio offers a suite of remote proctoring services that integrate with various learning management platforms. In this project, I improved the test-taking experience for a student.
Impact:
Successfully presented the demo at the internal conference that Proctorio hosted. Created user flows and prototypes for user research to solve UX problems for the test taker's online environment.
Problem
Students found the original proctoring interface confusing and stressful, with unclear instructions and limited support for accessibility needs.
My Solution + My Role at a Glance
A new exam setup gives test-takers an understanding of where they are in the exam setup stage.
Having a progress indicator helps test takers understand and visualize where they are in the exam setup stage. Adding a validation state helps define what the user needs to do to move forward.

Opportunity
How might we set test-takers up for success with an ideal experience for setting up an exam?
The Research
Inital Research + Product Insight

Support Data
To reduce support load, I had to identify issues and how support helps users with them. To understand this, I used the available analytics, interviewed Proctorio’s support staff, and even did a bit of support myself to get first-hand experience.

Social Media Reviews
A final piece data was a directly see what users were saying on any public available channels. I analyzed all user reviews and as many posts about the product that I could find on social media and identify the common issues for frustrations.

Literature Review
I also did a literature review to understand the current state of the art in the field of proctoring and test-taking. I found that there were many different approaches to the proctoring experience, and I wanted to find a way to improve the experience for test-takers.
Conclusion
A new exam setup gives test-takers an understanding of where they are in the exam setup stage.
Having a progress indicator helps test takers understand and visualize where they are in the exam setup stage. Adding a validation state helps define what the user needs to do to move forward.
